Aion: Japanese Voice Pack (v1.5)

Last updated on 2009/11/18

This voice pack will change your Aion client's voices to Japanese. This includes player character voices, NPC voices, cutscene voices and system voices. For more information and samples, please see this post.

This guide is provided "as is", choose to follow these instructions at your own risk. I am not responsible if anything happens to you, your account, or even your cat. The files of the voice pack come from the Japanese Aion game client and are provided to you for use with your Aion game client only. Please do not use for any other purposes.

Note: You do not need to edit/overwrite/modify/delete any existing files in the game folder. If you do then you are doing something wrong.

Instructions:

0.
If you have any third party voice packs installed (including old versions of this pack), then you need to remove it first. Open Aion\L10N\ENU and delete the Sounds folder or the Sounds.pak file.

1.
Download the voice pack from one of the following locations:
FileFront | MegaUpload | GamesOnNet
Zip file, about 407 MB
MD5 = 3a3a9403a0edf91087fc6ff43c62884c

2.
Extract the files, then copy Sounds.pak into Aion\L10N\ENU
The file should end up at Aion\L10N\ENU\Sounds.pak

If your client language is not English, then replace the ENU part of the path with the correct language code. For example: Korean is KOR, Chinese is CHS.

Do not modify, delete or overwrite any files in the game folder.

Do not try to extract the pak file, please use it as a whole.

3.
Done! Play the game and enjoy.

FAQ

Q: Will my account get banned if I use this?

An NCSoft community manager recently made a post regarding this kind of "cosmetic" modifications, you can read it here.

Q: Is the order of the character voice styles different?

The Japanese client has a different ordering of character voice styles (standard, tough, youth...). In this release of the voice pack, the order has been adjusted to match that of the NA/EU client, so you don't need to worry about people without the voice pack hearing the wrong style.

Q:
Why are there some blank or silent audio files?

That's the way it is. Aion supports 8 system voices (4 male, 4 female), but NC Japan only made 2 female and 3 male system voices, the rest are literally "intentionally left blank". Maybe the voice actors are too expensive. Maybe they will be added in the future.

Q: I'm playing the Chinese version and updated to v1.2.
The voice pack has stopped working, how to I fix it?

For Chinese v1.2 you have to put Sounds.pak into the CHS folder, even if you are using the English patch.

You are welcome to re-post this guide, but please make sure you link back to this article so people can check for updates. Please do not just link to the download mirrors as they will change whenever the files are updated.

Please do not re-upload the voice pack anywhere unless you can also keep it updated. There are already a number of outdated mirrors out there and they are really just doing more harm than good.

Aion: Chat Icons

Copy and paste the contents of the following text box into the in-game memo:

Whenever you want to use an icon in the game, just copy and paste from the memo. If you don't know already: copy is CTRL+C, paste is CTRL+V.

Note: Please do not abuse the icons.
Using excessive amounts of icons can be very annoying.

Aion: How to Revert v1.5 English Combat Voices Back to Korean

Don't like the new English combat voices? Miss the old Korean voices already? Good news is that the old voices are still in the game, and you can easily revert it back. You don't even need to download anything!

This guide is provided "as is", choose to follow these instructions at your own risk. I am not responsible if anything happens to you, your account, or even your cat.

Just follow these simple steps:

0.
If you have the Japanese voice pack installed, then you need to remove it first. Make a backup of it just in case you want it back. Go into Aion\L10N\ENU and delete the Sounds folder or Sounds.pak file.

1.
Make a new folder named Sounds in Aion\L10N\ENU

2.
Copy the voice folder from Aion\Sounds into Aion\L10N\ENU\Sounds
You should end up with Aion\L10N\ENU\Sounds\voice

3.
Done. Play the game and enjoy!

This will let you have the original Korean combat voices (the ones that were used in NA Closed Beta) while the NPC and Cut Scene voice overs will still be in English.
